Today we got a good early start with visiting Mt. Rushmore first thing in morning. The sun was at our back as we walked to all four stations and took pictures of the Presidents at different angles. The views were stunning and very well worth the trip. Much has improved and one can get much closer than we were able to 15 years ago.

After a couple of hours there we took the narrow winding mountain road through hairpin curves and tunnels to Custer State Park where we took the loop and viewed buffalo and Pronghorn Antelope. The buffalo were far from the road but I managed to get a good shot of an antelope. The park is beautiful and made for a nice mid-day drive. We then drove to Custer City for a nice soup and salad lunch.

After lunch we drove north to the Crazy Horse monument and enjoyed the afternoon very much. The monument/museum is to the Plains Indians and exhibits many, many artifacts and art of the Indians. Culturally, it shows the past and is bringing the present with current art displays and artists showing and selling there wares. We saw young native dancers in their brightly colored costumes as well as many elder tribal people.

We were allowed to take a rock from the mountain where the monument is being blasted so we have a souvenier from Crazy Horse!!! We then traveled the scenic route west on US 16 to Wyoming and drove to Gillette for the evening and ate a nice dinner at the Prime Rib. Tomorrow we take our trusty Toyota and head to Cody, WY!!
